Privacy Policy

Golf1 Media Limited (“G1”, “we”, “us” or “our”) provides the G1 mobile app, a golf fan platform bringing together live scores, tee times, creator content and highlights across the PGA, LIV, DP World and LPGA tours (the “App”). This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the App, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have.

We will update this policy as the App and our use of data evolve, and we’ll let you know about material changes.

1. Who we are

G1 is operated by Golf1 Media Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16890687), whose registered office is at Apartment 99, Valetta House, 336 Queenstown Road, London, England, SW11 8EP.

Contact for privacy questions or requests: nathan.salter@g1.app

For the purposes of UK GDPR, Golf1 Media Limited is the data controller for personal data processed through the App.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account details: name, avatar/profile image (optional), and the email address linked to your account.

  • Persona and preferences: the fan persona you select (Lifestyle / Engaged / Competitive), tours and players you follow, and notification preferences.

  • Anything you send us directly, e.g. feedback or support messages.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Usage and analytics data: events such as app opened, onboarding completed, persona selected, players/tours followed, and general in-app activity, used to understand engagement and improve the feed.

  • Device and technical data: device type, operating system and version, app version, and a push-notification token so we can deliver alerts.

We do not collect or request GPS or precise location data anywhere in the App. Tee times are shown in the tournament course’s own local time zone (sourced from our sports data provider), not derived from your device or location.

2.3 Information we do not collect (at MVP)

  • We do not collect payment card details, and there is no marketplace or betting functionality in the App at this stage.

  • We do not knowingly collect special category data (e.g. health, religion, biometric data).

3. How we use your information

  • To create and run your account and provide the core App experience.

  • To personalise your Home feed based on your persona, follows and behaviour.

  • To send push notifications you’ve opted into (e.g. weekend recaps, tee-time alerts, tournament updates).

  • To monitor, troubleshoot and improve the App (analytics, crash/error diagnostics, capacity planning).

  • To respond to support requests and feedback.

  • To meet legal obligations and keep the App secure.

4. Our legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on:

  • Contract — processing needed to create your account and provide the App you’ve signed up to use.

  • Consent — for push notifications and any optional analytics/tracking beyond what’s strictly necessary to run the App; you can withdraw this at any time in-app.

  • Legitimate interests — for core product analytics, security and fraud prevention, and improving the App, balanced against your right to privacy.

5. Who we share information with

We share personal data only where needed to run the App:

  • Apple App Store and Google Play — for app distribution, and account sign-in where applicable.

  • Firebase (Google) — account authentication, in-app analytics, and push notifications (Cloud Messaging).

  • Cloudflare — application hosting (Workers), our database (D1), and image/file storage (R2), plus Cloudflare AI Search for in-app search.

Firebase and Cloudflare are the only two providers that actually process personal data on our behalf. Content sources we pull from — NewsAPI.org, YouTube, Twitter/X, SportRadar, DataGolf, and Apify (for Instagram/TikTok content) — are upstream data vendors, not processors: they don’t receive or handle App users’ personal data.

  • Live scores, tee times and tournament data are sourced from third-party sports data / publisher feeds (see above). These relate to public tournament and player information, not App users’ personal data.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

6. International data transfers

Our Cloudflare databases (user data and content) run in Cloudflare’s Western Europe region, so day-to-day storage sits inside the UK/EEA. Firebase (Google) is also configured to process account authentication, analytics and push notification data in Western Europe, so we don’t currently transfer personal data outside the UK/EEA. If that ever changes, we’ll rely on an appropriate safeguard (such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or Google’s own Data Privacy Framework certification) and update this section.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep account and profile data for as long as your account is active, and for up to 3 years afterwards. Analytics and event data is also kept for up to 3 years on a rolling basis. If you delete your account, we’ll delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep limited records for legal or security reasons.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.

  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.

  • Ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).

  • Restrict or object to certain processing.

  • Receive your data in a portable format.

  • Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. turn off push notifications in-app).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 1. We’ll respond within one month as required by law.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113, though we’d appreciate the chance to resolve any concern directly first.

9. Notifications and marketing

Push notifications (weekend recaps, week-ahead previews, tee-time and live tournament alerts) are opt-in and can be switched off at any time in your device or App notification settings. We do not currently send marketing emails; if that changes, we’ll ask for your consent first.

10. Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children and is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we’ll remove it.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss or misuse, including:

  • TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit everywhere, terminated at Cloudflare, plus Cloudflare’s standard at-rest encryption on our database and file storage.

  • Every user-specific request is verified server-side against a Firebase-issued identity token, signature-checked against Google’s own keys.

  • Internal and admin tooling sits behind Cloudflare Access (a separate login gate) and isn’t publicly reachable.

  • No API keys are stored in source code.

  • Production database access is limited to whoever can log into the Cloudflare account.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App develops. We’ll update the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, let you know in-app.

13. Contact us

Questions about this policy or how we handle your data? Contact us at nathan.salter@g1.app, or write to us at the registered office address in Section 1.
